Why the Met Gala made me say the Quiet part out loud

Before you read any further: I believe that Covid is a serious illness and I am also pro vaccine. I believe the vaccines are our biggest weapon against the virus at this stage of the pandemic

Elite guests in outlandish and ostentatious outfits eating rich foods and partying while the help isn’t allowed to show their faces. While this display of wealth and beauty goes on, the rest of the country simmers in misery and despair because life as they once knew it was over.

This scene straight from dystopian tales such as the Hunger Games seemed much closer to reality as the country watched celebrities walk the Red Carpet at the annual Met Gala in New York City.

I don’t begrudge the organizers for holding the event and I even enjoyed watching some of the celebrities in their outlandish outfits. We are a country who crave a sense of normalcy after 18 long months of the pandemic.

This isn’t about bashing the elite or the organizers holding the event because I think it’s great to show that it is possible for us to learn to live with Covid because it is not going away any time soon.

My issue is with government officials who continue with Covid monomania and continue to stoke anxieties about regaining any sense of normalcy while we watch normalcy resume all around us.
